Clickbait & Disinformation

Introduction

Clickbait articles encourage readers to click on articles without regard for the quality of content, to generate revenue for the company. They often appeal to emotion to trick readers into clicking the article.

Some of these articles are intentionally misleading, with the intent of spreading disinformation. These articles are increasingly convincing, and young children may be unable to identify fact from fiction. When they come across these articles, they may share articles with friends, believing them to be true.

Deepfakes

Introduction

Deepfakes are videos or audio edited to show someone’s face, voice or body doing something they have not done. These videos can be dangerous as they can spread lies and trick the public.

Deepfakes are increasingly realistic and believable, making it hard to differentiate from reality. These videos show the victims doing or saying controversial things, which could result in them being targeted and doxxed. Teaching your child about deepfakes reduces the likelihood of them being tricked, preventing them from spreading disinformation.
